Taking aim

January 5, 2009

Steady, breathe deep and pull…..Dang wind!

It was now or never.  The wind was behaving a little now,  so I slowly squeezed the trigger.  Nothing!  What’s this?  Could it be that my ammo was defective?  Pulling the bolt back to eject the shell proved that the firing pin had hit the primer, but the primer never discharged.

I then slipped another shell in and pushed the bolt back securing the new cartridge.  The bolt on my rifle reminded me of the deadbolt on my front door, for they both were made of very strong steel and both were sliding mechanisms.  My last shot hit the bulls-eye, but that being the only one.

I ended up coming in last in the competition.  I’ll blame the wind this time!
