Towel Bars Versus Towel Rings

April 23, 2009 - HomeBound

While some of the choice between towel bars or towel rings in the bathroom comes down to personal preference, towel bars do have one distinct advantage.  With a towel bar, provided the towel isn’t bunched up in one corner, the towel itself will dry out much faster because the fabric has more exposure to the air.  With a towel ring, the towel will be all bunched up when hung and it will take it longer for it to dry out (especially the bunched up part that touches the ring itself).  You might find that hand towels are better suited for a towel ring (because they aren’t saturated with as much water), and bath towels are better suited for a towel bar.  However, certain towel rings might be wide enough to spread out a bath towel and allow it to dry. When it comes down to it, the choice really is based on personal preference, but for people who bathe daily or even twice daily, a towel bar might be a better choice for your bath towel.  There’s nothing worse than trying to dry off with a bath towel that’s already a little bit wet!

Oh Cabinet pull, oh cabinet pull

The cabinet pull shine with the reflection of the sun.  The glimmer captivated me as I imagined the first time I saw it.  It was all I had been thinking about before this moment, but know it was gone, and empty thought filled my brain with the image of my Kitchen.

My Kitchen had been nice but I could not quite figure out what was missing.  It just wasn’t quite right.  The feeling, the look, the utility, it was all wrong.  That is when I decided that I would work on the most easy thing first, the utility.  With my arthritis I needed something that was easy to grip, so I went shopping.  I knew right away that it was the right set.  After I installed it it obvious that it was not only the thing that would fix the problem of utility, it was the right thing to fix the look and feel as well.  Now I have the kitchen that I always wanted, and for half the price.

In remembrance of the Deadbolt

locked deadbolt

Oh, as I sit here by myself

Sit here alone with myself.

I cant help but wonder why

sit and ponder the reason why.

I feel safer in my room

knowing that the door is locked secure.

It has been Locked with the deadbolt through

so that no one can get into my room.

and if they try

try as they might

they cannot break into my room.

The sturdy metal bolt is locked secure.

with the strength of steel and all it’s might.

Ha Ha Decorative Hardware, Right!

April 16, 2009 - Mountainman

Gun fightOne of those Cloudy full moon nights as I rode the old White mare into town.  The saloon looked full and I was a bit on the thirsty side, the heat had dried me to the bones.  I went straight to the bar and ordered a Shot of Whiskey and had my canteen filled.  Sure does taste good as I took the shot and drained the water down.

There was an older well dressed fella in a long blue overcoat at the other end of the bar staring straight at me with hate written all over his face.  He was one mean lookin cowboy and I had no intention in startin a brawl. He was wearing a very fancy six shooter on his belt, you might say a showy piece of decorative hardware with a bullet in it waiting to send me hell at any given moment.  What is this guys problem I thought to myself…………..and then I woke up from a heavy sleep still shaking from a bad dream.  All I could think about was that hardware.  It was the decorations that had made that cowboy, not the man hiding behind them.

Use the Door Knocker!!!

April 13, 2009 - Mountainman

door knocker

When you come to a home that is big and you need to speak to the occupants, the best thing to do is to push the door bell button.  But sometimes houses don’t have door bells, if this is the case then use the door knocker it is important.  If you are at a big house and there is no door bell then it is highly probable that they will be in a place that is out of earshot from a regular knock on the door.

If you are knocking with a fist and you don’t get an answer when you know that they are home, then you can expect that the reason is because they cant hear you.  Try the knocker or you may needlessly walk away without fulfilling the purpose of your visit.  So next time you are at a large house use the door knocker.

Updating Your Cabinets

April 11, 2009 - HomeBound

cabinetknobsandpullskitchen-decorativehardware4u.jpgWhile installing new cabinets in your kitchen or bathroom can cost an arm and a leg, updating cabinets isn’t all that difficult.  Depending on the style of cabinets in the home, the first step is to decide on a new stain (for wood cabinets) or new paint (for cabinets made from wood or other materials).  Most homeowners decide on new paint as this tends to provide the most dramatic turnaround.  Once the color of stain or paint is selected, the next step is to decide on cabinet knobs and pulls.  The knobs and pulls on a cabinet are designed to comment its shape and its color.  For a contemporary look, consider blue steel paint with silver pulls.  For a classic look, consider a rich wood stain with wood knobs in a similar color.

The most important thing to remember when staining or painting cabinets is to have even strokes of stain or paint on the surface.  It’s simple for someone to identify shoddy cabinets that were repainted by the owner, but if you make sure there are no drips and the surfaces are flat and have equal coats, the cabinets will look like new.  For a more expensive makeover, replace the doors of the cabinets including the hinges.  This allows the owner to select the exact look they want, but keep in mind this can be pricy.
