What is a Privacy Knob?

December 7, 2008 - Roman

There are two main types of interior door sets. A passage set is an interior knob that does not have the ability to lock. Whereas a privacy knob can be locked from one side only. All privacy locks do have a mechanism that allows them to be unlocked from the outside. This is to prevent Children from becoming locked in with no way to be let out.

It is important to use privacy sets in bathroom doors, however most other interior sets will usually be passage sets. Some parents may want to install a privacy set on their bedroom doors, but should make sure to use passage locks on younger children’s bedrooms. When they become older then the switch can be discussed.
