Fatal strike
November 5, 2008
Living in the Midwestern states definetly has its ups and downs. It was the first day of my little boys summer soccer training camp, and as I was driving him to the soccer field, I noticed a area of dark clouds moving in from the West. Still in my car, I thought it would be a good idea to turn on the radio and listen to the weather. Sure enough, a warning was out in my county for a severe thunderstorm approaching.
I was getting a little nervous as I let my son out of the vehicle to meet with his team. I then decided that it might be a good idea to stick around a bit just in case the game was canceled. Sure enough the wind started getting stronger and the sounds of thunder was becoming louder and more frequent. The coach already had the team rounded up as I was getting out of the car to help him bring the team to the school gym.
The deadbolt don the entry door to the gym was locked, and with the storm becoming extremely serious, we decided to load the kids up in the empty cars that were in the schools parking lot. The storm finally subsided and we all were thankful that we were safe and alive. A poor fisherman in our area wasn’t so lucky, the poor guy got struck and killed while still in his boat.
